The brief

Legacy controls came out. In their place, a 6-rack Allen-Bradley ControlLogix system on a DLR ring, with well and force-pump sequencing, automated run-to-waste, and chemical dosing skids on Profibus.

Dosing skids sat on CompactLogix PLCs and PanelView HMIs, tied in over Profibus DP/PA. The sequencing had to respect how the works already ran, not invent a new process for the sake of the software.

This was delivered while Michal was contracted through Actemium Automation, inside that project team. It is not an MTL Software contract. The end client is not named.

BeforeAfter

How it was delivered

  1. Step 01

    Replace the legacy system

A site-wide upgrade onto a 6-rack ControlLogix architecture, with the racks on a DLR ring so a single network fault does not take the works down.

  2. Step 02

    Sequence the wells

Well and force-pump sequencing, plus automated run-to-waste, written around the way the works already operated.

  3. Step 03

    Bring the skids in

Distributed chemical dosing on CompactLogix and PanelView, integrated over Profibus DP/PA.

  4. Step 04

    Commission it

Proved on site as part of the Actemium project team, not signed off from a desk.
